Finally! This week, our CSA share includes cabbage. This makes me so incredibly happy, as I have been dreaming of sauerkraut for what seems like months.

I remember two of my great aunts making amazing pickled things when I was a child, pouring salt and vinegar and dill into large crocks with cucumbers and “leafy things”, only to reveal glorious sour foods months later. I can’t wait to try making my own this weekend.

Tomato

This week, I split the share equally with Andrew since Corrin and Anna are still in Europe, which means that I only received foods that I really want to eat. Yes!

  • Kohlrabi
  • Scallions
  • Swiss chard
  • Patty Pan Squash/li>
  • Zucchini
  • Cabbage
  • Tomatoes
  • Cucumbers

I braised the chard for last night’s dinner with Clay: Cajun catfish, chard, and rice – with strawberry cakes and ice cream for dessert. The squash, zucchini, scallions, and half of the tomato will become ratatouille with sausage. The cucumber and other tomato will mix with olives and goat cheese for a salad – I’ll grate a little bit of the kohlrabi over that salad, and see if I can turn the rest of it into a slaw for lamb burgers. Yum!
